TRIM® MicroSol® 692XT Cuts Fluid Consumption by 30% to 40% for U.S. Firearms Manufacturer
The customer is a mid-sized consumer firearms and ammunition manufacturer based in the U.S. They offer a large portfolio of pistols, rifles, and shotguns, as well as suppression equipment and specialty munitions.
THE CHALLENGE
The customer conducts a number of milling and drilling operations on various materials, including steel alloys, aluminum, and titanium. Their previous cutting fluid frequently created a buildup of heavy residues inside machines that required frequent shutdowns and cleanouts. The customer had to regularly use anti-foaming additives in the machine sump to prevent foam formation during machining operations. This remained a problem even after following manufacturer-recommended coolant management and machine cleaning procedures.

The sticky nature of the previous coolant also resulted in a high carryoff rate. Every three days, the customer would lose as many as 25 to 30 gallons of fluid to the chip bin, dramatically increasing fluid consumption and costs. The customer needed a new cutting fluid that could extend sump life, reduce residues, and eliminate foam.
THE SOLUTION
The customer decided to test Master Fluid Solutions® TRIM® MicroSol® 692XT, a premium, high-lubricity semisynthetic known for its incredible biostability and foam control even in the most demanding machining operations. The advanced multi-metal formula is designed to extend tool and sump life with low residues while minimizing machine downtime for cleaning. It performs well with a variety of metals, including steels, aluminum and titanium.
THE RESULTS
Immediately after switching to MicroSol 692XT, the customer noticed a significantly lower carryoff rate. Fluid loss came down from 9 to 10 gallons per day to just 4 to 7 gallons — a 30% to 44% reduction from the previous solution. This minimized drain time for coolant reclamation. The low-foam formula also eliminated the need for frequent machine cleanouts and anti-foam additives while increasing machine uptime and overall productivity.
THE NUMBERS
  • Cut fluid consumption by 30% to 44%
  • Eliminated foam and residues
  • Reduced machine cleanouts and downtime, increasing productivity
