High-Precision Parts Manufacturer Improves Tool Life and Eliminates Coolant Mist with TRIM® OM 210
The customer is a globally recognized precision parts manufacturer in Tamil Nadu, India. They specialize in creating parts for the automotive industry, with an emerging focus on farm equipment, pharmaceutical components, packaging, and electronics. The company has been in high demand since its establishment in 2003, undergoing almost half a dozen high-growth phases to continue supplying its ever-expanding clientele.
THE CHALLENGE
Throughout the operation, the customer performs a variety of parting, boring, milling, and drilling operations on mild steel. Their previous cutting fluid was prone to misting, causing machines and the workshop to quickly become dirty, even with frequent cleanings. This contributed to a poor quality surface finish requiring frequent rework and additional processing time, which lowered overall productivity.

The previous competitor cutting oil offered poor tool life due to low lubricity, and this was accepted by the customer. Its excessive mist also caused bad air quality, respiratory complaints, and a contaminated shop environment. Worse, the low flash point created a potential fire hazard.
THE SOLUTION
The customer switched from their incumbent neat cutting oil to TRIM® OM 210, a light, low-odor oil designed for operations that require high lubricity and low viscosity. The fluid excels at a variety of operations carried out by the customer, making it the ideal all-around fluid throughout the factory. Working closely with the customer, Master Fluid Solutions® educated the customer on significant tool life and process improvements, starting with the selection of the proper oil.

OM 210 is proven to significantly extend tool life because of its high lubricity and low viscosity reducing heat at the cutting edge and effectively flushing chips from the cutting zone. The fluid is especially suited for deep hole drilling and high-friction operations.
THE RESULTS
After switching to TRIM OM 210, the customer's issues with fluid mist completely disappeared. They also achieved immediate improvements to part finish quality. In fact, operators were able to reduce Roughness Average (RA) from 1.6 to just 0.5 with OM 210. ® The machinery and facility also remained cleaner so operators could work more efficiently without continually cleaning up potential hazards. This improved the shop environment drastically. OM 210 also extended tool life much further than the previous neat oil solution.
