Indonesian Auto Manufacturer Doubles Coolant and Tool Life with TRIM® C385
Founded in 1973, the customer is a leading automotive manufacturer based in Indonesia. Formed as a joint venture between a globally recognized automotive brand and local manufacturers, the company originally focused on producing parts and accessories. Over time, operations expanded to create production automotive parts for various markets.
THE CHALLENGE
At their central location, the customer carries out a number of drilling, milling, and boring operations on steel to produce gear sets for trucks. The customer used a general purpose coolant but the demanding production environment quickly wore down cutting tools, resulting in poor life and high tooling costs. This raised production costs higher than targets, despite the customer performing rigorous cutting fluid maintenance.
THE SOLUTION
To control and reduce costs, the customer upgraded to TRIM® C385, a high-quality synthetic that provides exceptional cooling ability and chip removal at the point of cut. The versatile fluid was designed to excel in modern machine shops, exceeding expectations in multiple machining operations. TRIM C385 offers excellent tramp oil rejection and runs clean for reduced machine downtime and long sump life.
THE RESULTS
After upgrading to TRIM C385, the customer immediately doubled coolant life from just three months to more than six months without any changes to their cutting fluid maintenance protocols. With better lubrication and cooling ability, TRIM C385 also dramatically extended tool life by, on average, 1.5x to 2x for each of the customer's operations. Finish milling tool life also more than doubled from 200 pieces per tool to 463 pieces per tool.

With extended tool life and lower coolant consumption, the customer achieved cost savings on multiple budget items and brought down the cost per part. In addition, TRIM C385's clean formulation was also less toxic for the environment and safer to dispose of than their previous solution.
