Established in 1974, the company has evolved from a small, five-employee operation to a global player generating more than $25 million in annual revenue. THE CHALLENGE
The customer works with a wide array of materials, including irons, steels, and various alloys. The previous cutting fluid was inexpensive and compatible with all of their workpieces but was low performance and poor quality. As a result, the customer experienced frequent corrosion issues throughout the production cycle. High fluid consumption resulted in unusually high overall coolant costs, negating the low price of their previous coolant. The customer needed a more advanced product.
THE SOLUTION
After a consultation with the team at Master Fluid Solutions®, the customer switched to TRIM® SC9030SGM, a high-oil semisynthetic especially prized for its combination of cooling, lubricity, and ease of maintenance with excellent corrosion protection. The formula is well suited for all the materials the customer used in their operation, and ideal for both high-production machining and grinding operations.
THE RESULTS
Immediately after converting to SC9039SGM, the customer eliminated their rust issues during and after production. Despite dealing with such challenging materials, the customer was able to maintain optimal performance with just a 1.5% daily makeup rate. Fluid life even extended, far beyond their previous solution. In all, the customer reduced daily fluid consumption by 67% and extended tool life by as much as 14%.
